Flat Roof Slope Calculator
This flat roof slope calculator determines the minimum required pitch for flat and low-slope roofing systems. Despite the name, flat roofs are never truly flat — the IBC requires a minimum slope of ¼ inch per 12 inches (2.08%) for positive drainage. The calculator computes exact slope in degrees, percentage, and inches per foot for flat roof design. It covers built-up roofing (BUR), single-ply membranes (TPO, EPDM, PVC), modified bitumen, and spray foam roofing systems, each with specific minimum slope requirements.

How to Calculate Flat Roof Slope
Flat roof slope is calculated the same as any roof pitch — rise divided by run. The critical difference is that flat roofs operate in a very narrow pitch range (0.25:12 to 3:12) where small changes in slope dramatically affect drainage performance.
