Roof Slope Area Calculator
This roof slope area calculator determines the actual surface area of a sloped roof from the building footprint and roof pitch. A flat footprint of 1,000 sq ft with a 6:12 pitch has a true roof area of 1,118 sq ft — 11.8% more material is required. The calculator applies the roof pitch multiplier (secant of the slope angle) to convert horizontal area into sloped surface area, essential for accurate shingle, underlayment, and membrane quantity takeoffs.
Roof Area vs Footprint
How to Calculate Roof Slope Area
To calculate roof slope area, multiply the flat footprint area by the pitch multiplier. The pitch multiplier equals √(1 + (rise/run)²). This converts horizontal square footage to actual surface square footage accounting for the slope.
